Week 9

Dear fellow blog readers,

I FINISHED MY TRIFOLD!!!!!! Im so happy that I finished, it took so long and i'm very proud of my hard work. I put little cartoons of a plastic bag, lunch tray, and milk carton saying "we deserved to be recycled, not thrown away so make us happy and REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE today." I put a picture of my final product  and under the picture I glued the words Recycling IS important.  Tomorrow is the open house where people can come and look at your genius hour and ask you questions. I am going to bring my recycling bins to the open house so people can see them and get to experience how big they are. I found out that my recycling bins are so big an average 5th grader can fit in them ( A.K.A me )   I am going to tell everyone how the new process is going to work. Im a little nervous because I want to do well but, I think i'll do fine. I am hoping the concept is easy to understand so that the younger graders with comprehend the system.  If people start breaking the rules or are confused about the process overall I am going to ask my principal if I can conduct a assembly explaining it to everyone.

                                                                                              Sincerely,

                                                                                                      Emilee

Week 8

Dear fellow blog readers,

This is my set up for how my system is going to work and how everyone is going to use it.

so, the line helps everyone separate their recyclables without having a huge mob of kids. The two bins represent paper and plastic so people throw paper in the paper bin and plastic in the plastic bin.
I  hope this stays at my school for a while so that we can make the world a better place and always remember if you put your mind to something and work hard you can always accomplish your biggest goals.
                                                                                                   Sincerely,
                                                                                                        Emilee

Week 7

Dear fellow blog readers,

I talked to Mr. Jackson to ask him about our recycling system in school, and he said that we recycle,  just not at lunch, which is why I chose this topic for genius hour. I also talked to him about how everyone was going to use my process and how I'm going to explain it to everyone so they understand.I'm setting up the recycling bins by the back wall near the lunch tables and each of the trash cans are going to have a sticker that says what to put in them. How its going to work is, each student throws away any garbage they have and then all of their recyclables go in the appropriate bin. Once each kid is done recycling the janitor will take the recycling bins and dump them in the recycling dumpster so they can be taken to a recycling plant to then be recycled into more of whatever was recycled. Im going to have a talk with the school on how the process work and what to do what not to do the type of stuff. Then I'm hoping to get everyone to understand it so my process can live on forever in the history of sedgwick.

Week 6

Dear fellow blog readers,

Ive decided to choose a different recycling bin that is bigger and better. I really like these new bins because they are bigger than the ones I was researching before so that they will fit more. I started working on my trifold and I really like how its turning out next step is to write my data on the board and then some fun facts then  I will be done. At this point in genius hour I feel that I have come so far. we only have a month left until we have to present our final product and trifold which is really exiting. The next step for my trash cans is to cut out a recycling stencil and and spray paint it on to the trashcan. once I am done with that I will have my homemade recycling bins! the set up of my recycling bins will be along the back wall by the lunch tables so when people are done with their food they will put the recyclables in the bins. My parents and i have been talking about some fun facts to put on my trifold and we figured out that if every kid drank one milk carton each day we could possibly recycle up to 90,000 milk cartons each school year. thats HUGE!

                                                                                                         sincerely,
                                                                                                                Emilee

Week 5

Dear fellow blog readers,

We are half way through guys and I cant even imagine what the end is going to be like! All of the genius hour people are going start trifolds on week six. That is only a week away guys and I cant wait to make one. Considering I am really creative so, my trifold is probably going to be covered in glitter and paint. I am really enjoying genius hour lately. It has been such a fun experience to learn in enrichment. We have been recently talking about our final projects and I'm starting to really research a company that will either send you recycling bins or a place we can buy them from. I recently found out that home depot sells bins that my school could easily convert into recycling.I would really like to try to make them out of recycled materials but unfortunately I am running out of time so, I am probably going to just buy them. I also tried making flyers to put up to tell everyone about the new recycling system at our school. The picture next to this text is a picture of the recycling bin that i researched. This bin is $13.47 it is 14 gallons and I think it would need to be emptied after the lower graders ate lunch.

Week 4

Dear fellow blog readers,

I've been thinking and we have come so far already we are almost have way through genius hour and I can't wait for the finished project. I really believe this can happen for my school. Also I wanted to tell you I know this is really of topic but I believe if you put your mind to something you can do it you just have to believe in yourself it is all about believing, you know how I know because I have probably said believe like 5 times in this little section but really you just have to know in your heart and soul that you can do anything you want, as long as you put your mind to it. I'm going to under line all of the times I typed believe.  Ok I typed it six times but I was close, anyway back to the point I know some of you might be thinking well why does recycling matter anyway? well I have just the answer for you recycling matters because it helps us as a planet stay clean just like when humans take showers they wash all of the dirt off themselves,  us recycling is kindof  like giving the earth a shower but in a different way.

                                                        Sincerely,

                                                       Your fellow blog writer

Week 3

Hello fellow readers,

This week I researched how to get recycling bins for my school. I found recycling bins at home depot for $13.47 that's not to much considering they are 14 gallons. I think the recycling bins will really effect my school because we can raise money by giving bottles to a certain association and it will help all of the students get in the habit of recycling and not only that it will influence them to recycle at home and that helps the earth even more. you know it is fairly to recycle so i recommend you do it. Here let me tell you how. you get some bins you label them paper, glass, and plastic and then your done you put paper in the paper bin, plastic in the plastic bin, and glass in the glass bin. really simple right? you can go to a local recycling center. close to where I live there is a recycling association named FillAbox Corporation and you can go to drop off your recycling. I really want to influence as many people as possible to recycle because get rid of all of the trash on the road and it will make your town or city look much better. I really believe if we work hard as a planet we can make earth cleaner.

                                                               Sincerely,

                                                                your fellow blogger
